ABout Yogademics

Yogademics was founded by Sue Tobert, an experienced Educational Therapist and Tutor who brings more than 30 years of teaching expertise to every session. As a retired Special Education teacher, Sue now focuses her full energy on helping elementary school students build real academic skills while also building focus, confidence and calm through yoga and mindfulness. Yogademics blends evidence-based instruction with movement and breath, offering families a smarter, more supportive alternative to traditional tutoring.

Smart tutoring. Steady growth. Stronger confidence.

Yogademics sessions begin by meeting each child where they are - assessing focus, energy and engagement - before diving into skill-building work.

  • Academic support covers sight word recognition, phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, writing, math facts, word problems and more.

  • Sessions are multisensory and highly personalized, with materials like word searches, mazes, mandalas and hands-on tools woven into the learning process.

  • No computer programs - just proven methodologies, brain-boosting activities and personalized support from someone who’s done the work in real classrooms for decades.

  • And yes, there are energizing movement breaks and calming breathing practices when they’re needed most.

  • Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University, with certification as a New Jersey Social Worker.

Sue’s Teaching Experience

Before retiring from public education, Sue spent over three decades supporting a wide range of learners in both general and special education.

She began her career teaching deaf and hard of hearing students in the Chicago area, and later taught at the Katzenbach School for the Deaf in New Jersey. After earning her MSW, Sue transitioned into a long-standing role as a K–5 Special Education teacher in Hamilton Township, NJ, supporting students from a wide range of learning backgrounds. She has taught in inclusion classrooms, resource rooms and support settings, consistently helping students make meaningful academic gains. Her strength lies in understanding what each child needs and building the right support plan to help them succeed.

Additionally, Sue has presented on the benefits of yoga in education at the NJ Teachers Convention and received grant funding to incorporate yoga into special education classrooms.

Sue as an Award-Winning Author

In addition to her work as an educator, Sue is the author of Happi’s World—a playful, engaging activity book for children that blends yoga, mindfulness, coloring, and movement. Designed for families, teachers, and therapists, Happi’s World helps children improve attention, coordination and focus, all while having fun with Happi, a cheerful yoga-loving lemur. The book has been recognized for its creativity and impact, adding yet another layer of care and intention to Sue’s work with children.

Yogademics isn’t a tutoring center, and that’s the point. With Sue, your child gets more than just help with homework. They get someone who sees the whole child, understands how to build skills from the ground up and knows how to keep learning calm, focused and meaningful.
